The Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) Media Working Group, which was founded in January 2019 in Lausanne during the General Assembly of AIPS, held its second meeting in the occasion of the 2020 AIPS Congress in Budapest, Hungary. One of the main aims of this group is to facilitate and provide modern and adequate conditions for journalists during the bi-annual GSSE, a multi-sport event in which nine European countries of a population under one million participate on a regular basis. During the meeting held in Budapest Malta Sports Journalists President Sandro Micallef was appointed as Chairman of this group with his counterparts in Cyprus, Erodotos Miltiadous and in San Marino Elia Gorini assisting with the coordination of this group. Eight Ball Pool player Dejan Grech has been declared as the the Atlas Youth Athlete of the month following his achievement in the European Eight Ball Pool Championship 2020 held in Malta last month. This is the second award being awarded to a local youth athlete following the launch of this initiative by Atlas Insurance in collaboration with the Malta Sports Journalists Association. Dejan Grech was the most successful Maltese player in the 2020 European Eight Ball Poll Championship where he was crowned European Champion in the Under 23 category. In the final he managed to beat Irish player Thomas Morgan 7 frames to 3. Grech’s experience in this international event will be one to be remembered also for the fact that along with the Malta Under 23 team he managed to reach the final against Team Ireland with the Irish counterparts this time claiming the honor. Il-plejer tal-Pool Dejan Grech kien dikjarat rebbieħ tal-unur Atlas Żagħżugħ tax-Xahar għal Frar 2020, wara l-wirja kbira li kellu fil-Kampjonat Ewropew tal-Eight Ball Pool li sar f’Malta x-xahar li għadda. Dan hu t-tieni unur li qed jingħata ta’ din ix-xorta b’inizjattiva ta’ Atlas Insurance bil-kollaborazzjoni tal-Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sports li ta’ kull xahar tikkordina panel ta’ ġurnalisti tal-isport fejn jevalwaw il-kisbiet tal-atleti żgħażagħ. Dejan Grech kellu kampjonat straordinarju hekk kif mhux biss rebaħ il-finali ta’ taħt it-23 sena u temm bis-suċċess ta’ Ċampjin Ewropew, iżda saħansitra wasal ukoll sas-semi finali fil-kategorija Open. Fil-finali tal-kategorija ta’ taħt it-23 sena Grech għeleb fil-finali lil Thomas Morgan tal-Irlanda 7 frames għal 3. Grech kien anke jifforma parti mit-tim Malti ta’ taħt it-23 sena li wasal sal-finali kontra t-tim Nazzjonali tal-Irlanda fejn tilef ħames frames għal tnejn. A few days ago, a fellow Maltese sports photo reporter Angie Conti passed to me a particular picture that gave me a new perspective of Women’s Day and why it should keep being celebrated. This photo made me realize that whilst men and women were created equal, God gave us women an extra gift - the art of multi tasking.
