Malta Sports Journalists Association reaches agreement with Malta FA for further collaboration

The Malta Football Association (MFA) and the Malta Sports Journalists Association (MSJA) have reached an agreement in principle to strengthen the collaboration between the two entities with the aim of growing sports journalism further and to increase the level of support for the members of the MSJA through various benefits. During a meeting held at the Malta FA headquarters, attended by Malta FA President Bjorn Vassallo and General Secretary Dr Maria Azzopardi, as well as Clinton Buhagiar and Lorraine Cunningham, President and General Secretary of the MSJA respectively, several topics of mutual interest were discussed. Among the benefits discussed was that related to photographers falling under the category ‘Freelance’. L-Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sport tilħaq ftehim mal-Malta Football Association għal aktar kollaborazzjoni

Il-Malta Football Association u l-Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sport jinfurmaw li laħqu ftehim fil-prinċipju ta’ aktar kollaborazzjoni bejn iż-żewġ entitajiet bil-għan li l-ġurnaliżmu sportiv ikompli jitkattar u favur li l-membri tal-għaqda jingħataw sostenn permezz ta’ beniffiċji varji. F’laqgħa li saret fil-Kwartieri tal-MFA u li għaliha attendew Bjorn Vassallo u Dr Maria Azzopardi, President u Segretarju Ġenerali tal-Assoċjazzjoni Maltija tal-Futbol u Clinton Buhagiar u Lorraine Cunningham, President u Segretarju Ġenerali tal-GĦĠS, kienu diskussi numru ta’ temi ta’ rilevanza għaż-żewġ partijiet. Fost il-benefiċċji diskussi hemm dik relatata mal-fotografi fil-kategorija ‘Freelance’ fejn b’mod immedjat il-Malta FA aċċettat li tirrinunzja li żżomm il-miżata annwali ta’ €200 li kienet tkopri akkreditazzjoni għall-kompetizzjonijiet tal-kbar u l-miżata annwali ta’ €75 li kienet tkopri akkreditazzjoni għall-kompetizzjonijiet taż-żgħar. IĠM, MSJA condemn personal attack, bullying on journalists

The IĠM has received a complaint from four sports journalists concerning the recent behaviour of the president of the Malta Football Association regarding a report on the association’s volunteer programme for sports photographers. The IĠM and MSJA have seen the right of reply by the MFA, in English and in Maltese, to the news outlet Malta Sport as well as a letter sent to AiMS Chairman Antonio Mizzi complaining about the behaviour of two of its employees and a private text message sent by MFA President Bjorn Vassallo to one of the complainants. While any entity is free to publish a right of reply to correct any mistakes in reporting, a right of reply is not a space to attack or bully journalists.
