The Maltese Sporting Community is in mourning after last night's announcement that Judge Emeritus Dr. Lino Farrugia Sacco passed away at the age of 72. Dr. Farrugia Sacco was an active member of the Maltese Olympic Committee, holding several positions, including the prestigious role of President between 1996 and 2013, during which time he shaped the MOC's functionality and implemented several initiatives to benefit elite Maltese athletes. He had strong ties with local sports federations, where in the past he held the role of President of the Malta Tennis Federation before making the decision to contest for the MOC's Presidency. Dr. Farrugia Sacco was also elected as the Treasurer of the European Tennis Federation. Dr. Farrugia Sacco chaired the evaluation commission for the 2021 Mediterranean Games as well as the European Olympic Commission's audit committee. L-atleta tal-Għawm Artistiku Zea Montfort, ingħatat l-unur tal-Atlas Atleta Żagħżugħa tax-Xahar għal Settembru. Montfort fil-kategorija ta’ bejn it-13 u l-15-il sena, ħadet sehem flimkien mat-Tim Nazzjoanli tal-Għawm Artistiku, fl-ewwel edizzjoni tal-European Youth Artistic Swimming Championships & Mediterannean Artistic Swimming Cup 2021 li saret f’Rijeka, fil-Kroazja, bejn is-7 u t-12 ta’ Settembru. Malta kellha kompetizzjoni iebsa mar-Russja, Spanja, l-Olanda, il-Gran Brittanja, in-Norveġja u l-Italja. Minkejja li l-atleti l-oħra huma aktar ta’ esperjenza, Zea Montfort irnexxielha tagħmilha sal-finali. Bħala solo, Zea Montfort ġiet fis-seba’ post fir-ranking tal-Comen. Meta tgħaqqad ir-rankings tal-Comen u dawk Ewropej, hija ġiet fl-14-il post minn 20. Artistic swimmer Zea Montfort has been awarded the Atlas Youth Athlete of the month Award for the month of September. Montfort participated with the National Artistic Swimming Team in the 13-15 age category, in the first European Youth Artistic Swimming Championships & Mediterranean Artistic Swimming Cup 2021 in Rijeka, Croatia, between the 7th and 12th September. Malta had to contend with tough competition, including Russia, Spain, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Norway and Italy. Despite coming up against more experienced athletes, as a solo, Zea Montfort went through the final and ranked 7th in the Comen ranking. In the combined rankings (Europeans and Comen) she came 14th out of 20. The trophy for the September 2021 Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month together with the sports apparel voucher were presented to Zea Montfort by Matthew von Brockdorff, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Atlas Insurance.
