Kayden Lagana claims September Atlas Youth Athlete of the month award

Young Tenpin bowler Kayden Lagana has been named as the winner of the September 2020 Atlas Youth Athlete of the month award. During the period of evaluation Lagana registered impressive results at the MTBA National League (4 men team) as well as the Doubles' League. Kayden Lagana’s first tangible achievement was when he became the youngest Maltese player to bowl in the highest division of the MTBA National League. A 600+ series is an aim for all Tenpin bowlers and such a score was registered by Lagana when he managed to bowl an amazing 6 series over the 600.   His greatest achievement was when he rolled a 680 in the Doubles League, exceeding his personal best which he had bowled in August by 1 pin, and therefore placing himself in the Youth records up to 18 years for series over 675.   Kayden Lagana has in fact become the youngest ever [...]

Record number of 171 Submissions 1 month to go

A record of 171 submissions have been registered for the 30th Edition of the Malta Journalism Awards, which will be held in a month’s time. All main media houses in Malta are represented in these awards. The Human Interest Story of the Year category tops the chart with the largest number of submissions – 31. Other categories with a substantial amount of submissions include Photography – Open: 16; Audiovisual News/Current Affairs: 13, Photography News/Current Affairs:13; Specialised News: 13; Feature:13; Investigation of the Year: 10. Three or more submissions were registered in all 16 categories that were open for nominations, as a change in the regulations following a consultation process resulted in a record number of submissions. L-Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sports isellem il-memorja ta’ Anthony Chircop

Il-Media lokali ssellem il-memorja ta' persuna sinonima mal-Atletika; Anthony Chircop li għal 18-il sena sħaħ okkupa l-kariga ta' President tal-MAAA. Chricop kien bniedem dedikat u serva f'diversi karigi oħra wara li temm il-Presidenza tal-MAAA. Taħt l-amministrazzjoni tiegħu l-atletika lokali kibret sew fil-popolarita' tagħha. Hu kellu konnessjonijiet tajba ma' diversi uffiċjali fi ħdan il-European Athletics u anke l-IAAF Hu kien rebaħ ukoll l-unur tal-Uffiċjal tas-sena fl-Isportivi Nazzjonali fl-1998. Għal diversi snin kien ukoll jokkopa l-kariga ta' Direttur fi ħdan il-KOM. Il-President tal-Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sports Sandro Micallef iddeskriva lil Chircop bħala persuna li dejjem ta servizz leali lill-Isport tal-Atletika, servizz li kien għadu jagħti sal-aħħar jiem ta' ħajtu. L-Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sports tibgħat il-kondoljanzi lill-familja kollha Chircop.

30th edition of the Malta Journalism Awards

The Malta Journalism Awards Commission of the Malta Institute of Journalists is launching the 30th edition of these prestigious awards with some changes from previous editions and the inclusion of new categories. These awards are aimed at acknowledging and awarding journalistic efforts and promoting high standards in local journalism. Fort the first time a Commission has been set up at the Annual General Meeting of the Institute held last June, to organize these Awards. The Commission is autonomous and is composed of Pierre Cassar, who was in charge of the consultation process on the said Awards, Sandro Micallef and Christian Peregin. Sylvana Debono, Nigel Mifsud and Mario Schiavone, President Segretary and Treasurer of the IGM form part of the said Commission, thus ensuring the necessary synergy with the direction of the Institute.
