AIPS EUROPE holds Exceutive Committee meetings in Flagenfurt, Austria

KLAGENFURT, March 5, 2014 – Between the 3 – 5 March, AIPS EUROPE held its Exceutive Committee meetings in Flagenfurt, Austria. These were the final official EC meetings prior to the General Assembly due to be held on the 27th April in Baku, Azerbaijan during the AIPS Congress. The main issue during the meeting was the final preparation for the General Assembly during which the new Executive Committee is to be elected for the three year term up to 2017. The EC confirmed all 17 contestants for the nine positions as members on the Executive Committee. President Yannis Daras, Secretary General Charles Camenzuli and Treasurer Murat Agca are uncontested for the leading positions within AIPS Europe. The elections to be held on the 27th April show a record number of contestants covering 20 European countries and for the first time ever having also three women as candidates. […]

Malta Sports Journalists Association participates in match fixing seminar organised by Maltco

The Malta Sports Journalists Association participated in a match fixing seminar organised by Maltco Lotteries. President Charles Camenzuli, General Secretary Sandro Micallef, Assistant Treasurer Henry Brincat and member Matthew Mamo represented the Association for this important seminar on the current subject of match fixing. “Building National Networks in the EU to fight Match-Fixing” was the main subject chosen for the seminar organized by Maltco Lotteries Ltd. in collaboration with the Institute for International and Strategic Relations (IRIS) and the European Lotteries. For the very first time in Malta, Maltco Lotteries has taken up such initiative in order to bring together a number of local sports representatives and Government Stakeholders to discuss the phenomenon of match fixing and the importance that this subject brings along. National Sports Awards: William Chetcuti, Sue Abela top 2013 athletes

by Henry Brincat Double Trap shooter William Chetcuti and tenpin bowler Sue Abela were named as Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year 2013 during the annual national awards ceremony organised by the Ghaqda Gurnalisti Sport (Sportswriters Association – GHGS). The ceremony, at the Le Meridien Hotel, was attended by several distinguished guests, among them Dr Stefan Buontempo, Parliamentary Secretary responsible for Sport, as well as David Agius MP, representing the PN. Also present for the occasion as a special guest was former Italian boxer Patrizio Oliva. He had won the gold medal at the Moscow Olympics in 1980. He congratulated all the winners before, together with GHGS president Charles Camenzuli and Maltco Lotteries CEO, Dr Katakis, presented the prestigious Sportsman of the Year trophy to William Chetcuti.
