Friday 24th September 2021 – Maltco Lotteries showed its appreciation towards local talent and awarded the winners from the SportMalta Awards – Għażliet Sportivi Nazzjonali by means of financial support.  This has been the 9th consecutive year for the National Lottery operator to support this initiative. The local athletes have been awarded with their respective title back in March for their 2020 achievements during the SportMalta Awards – Għażliet Sportivi Nazzjonali televised ceremony held on Saturday, the 13th of March, which was organised by SportMalta together with the Malta Sports Journalists Association.

The company’s constant support for this event was affirmed by Maltco Lotteries CEO, Vasileios Kasiotakis. “Having sport as one of the core pillars of our annual CSR programme, the company is proud to have once again reaffirmed its commitment to support this prestigious event. The direct financial support to the winners is another confirmation that Maltco Lotteries is committed towards local sports and will serve as an encouragement and incentive to the winning athletes to pursue further in their sports career.”

The President of the Malta Sports Journalists Association, Sandro Micallef thanked Maltco Lotteries for their continuous support not only towards the SportMalta Awards – Għażliet Sportivi Nazzjonali but also for their active participation and ongoing support to flourish local sport.

The following are the winners who benefitted from this year’s Maltco Lotteries’ prize money:

  • Sportsman of the Year – DEJAN GRECH (Eight Ball Pool)
  • Sportswoman of the Year – HALEY BUGEJA (Football)
  • Male Sports Youth of the Year – RICHARD SCHULTHEIS (Sailing)
  • Female Sports Youth of the Year – TENISHIA THORNTON (Weightlifting)
  • Sports Team of the Year – MALTA NATIONAL FEMALE FOOTBALL TEAM (Football)
  • Sports Coach of the Year – DEVIS MANGIA (National Men Football Team Coach)
  • Sports Official of the Year – JOSEPH MUSCAT (General Secretary Malta Basketball Association)

The presentation was held on Friday, the 24th of September at the Cottonera Sports Complex.
