The Malta Sports Journalists Association wholeheartedly thanks its member, Photographer Walter Sargent and praises his heroic intervention when together with the nurse on duty he acted instantly and gave the first crucial medical assistance through an AED to St Venera Lightnings Maltese player and Club captain Yau-Mun Law who suffered a hearth failure during the first half of the BOV 3rd Division match vs Kirkop Utd on Thursday evening at the Centenary Stadium in Ta’ Qali, Malta.

The sport media joins Sta Venera Lightnings FC and the general public in thanking Mr Sargent for his brave action.

The Malta Sports Journalists Association wishes a speedy recovery to the player concerned who is still in intensive care and joins the maltese football community in its effort in putting more pressure on the Malta Football Association to secure that in the near future at least one ambulance or a doctor is present for each official MFA / YFA game in addition to the current scheduled nurse on duty. Alternatively an ambulance car could be always booked on stand by and be shared between stadia in the same region or vicinity.

The Malta Sports Journalists Association urges the MFA to speed up its actions with immediate and concrete decisions following last night’s accident. This unfortunate accident should also serve as an eye opener to all Sports Federations, MOC and SportMalta who should all stop and reflect and come up with a standard fast emergency protocol  when faced with unfortunate similar accidents in the near future.
