Graham Pellegrini, aged 18 years, has been awarded the Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month Award for June. This is the eighth time that this award has gone to a Track and Field athlete, with Rachela Pace being the first Award winner way back in January 2020.

Pellegrini, who has been practising athletics for the last four years, won two gold and one silver medal in the Games of the Small States of Europe 2023. He won gold in the Men’s 200m and in the Men’s 4x100m Relay. He also won a silver medal in the Men’s 400m. In June, he also participated in the European Championships in Silesia, Poland, where he placed fourth in the Men’s 400m with a time of 47.47s, while Albania’s Franco Burraj won the race in 46.30s.

The trophy for the June 2023 Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month together with the sports apparel voucher were presented to Graham Pellegrini by Robert Micallef, Chief Commercial Officer of Atlas Insurance. The Malta Sports Journalists Association was represented by President Sandro Micallef and General Secretary Lorraine Cunningham.

This award is a joint initiative of the Malta Sports Journalists Association and Atlas Insurance. The adjudicating panel of this award takes note of all the youth athletes’ achievements during the month under review and at the same time it invites local sport associations and federations to send in their nominations for consideration if they feel that any of their under-21 athletes have distinguished themselves during that month.

Nominations for this award may be sent via email to info@maltasportsjournalists.com. The rules and regulations of the award can be viewed on the website www.maltasportsjournalists.com.
