Newcastle United Women and Inter Women faced each other at St James’ Park on Sunday as part of the Visit Malta Weekender 2026, in an international friendly that also carried a special Maltese connection through Malta international Haley Bugeja, who featured for the Italian side.

Playing at the iconic home of Newcastle United, both teams looked to make the most of the pre-season encounter, with Inter making the breakthrough in the 25th minute through Marie Detruyer, who opened the scoring for the Nerazzurre.

In the 86th minute, Inter doubled their advantage through elisa Polli, who found the back of the net to make it 2-0 and put the Italian side firmly in control in the closing stages at St James’ Park.
