The Malta Sports Journalists Association in collaboration with the Malta Fair Play Movement and Together Gaming, has selected the Malta Women’s Beach Handball National Team as the recipients for this quarterly between April – June Fair Play Award, presented as part of the organisations’ ongoing initiative to recognise outstanding examples of sportsmanship and fair play in Maltese sport.
The award, presented every three months, honours individuals or teams who embody the true values of sport through their conduct, integrity, respect for opponents and officials, and commitment to fair competition.
The Malta Women’s Beach Handball National Team earned this recognition following their participation in the 2026 Calise Cup in Gaeta, Italy, where they were also presented with the tournament’s Fair Play Award after finishing sixth overall.
Throughout the competition, the Maltese squad demonstrated exemplary sportsmanship both on and off the sand, earning the respect of organisers, officials and fellow competitors. Their conduct throughout the tournament reflected the principles that the MSJA Fair Play Award seeks to recognise and promote.
From a sporting perspective, Malta opened the competition with an impressive victory over Beach Handball Tilburg of the Netherlands, winning both sets 23-10 and 22-10. The team then faced strong opposition from Great Britain, Portugal and Cyprus before ending the tournament on a high note with a 2-0 victory over Italy’s Colosseum Handball Women to secure sixth place overall.
The team’s participation in the Calise Cup followed another valuable international experience at the EBT Lupa Beach Cup in Hungary, where the national squad competed against some of Europe’s leading teams as part of its preparations for next year’s Mediterranean Beach Games. These international tournaments continue to provide important opportunities for the development of Malta’s women’s beach handball programme while allowing the players to compete at the highest level.
“We extend our congratulations to the Women’s National Handball Team on their remarkable accomplishment. Their participation and exemplary sportsmanship serve as an inspiration to fellow athletes and teams, demonstrating the values of fairness and dedication in sports” said Together Gaming CEO Edward Licari.
The Malta Sports Journalists Association congratulates the Malta Women’s Beach Handball National Team on this well-deserved recognition and thanks the Malta Fair Play Movement together with the sponsor Together Gaming Solutions for their continued collaboration in promoting and rewarding fair play across Maltese sport.
