Malta Men's U16 Water Polo Team wins the Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month Award for August

Atlas 12th September 2022 (168) ‌

Malta Men's U16 Water Polo Team has been awarded the Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month Award for the month of August 2022. This is the third time that the award has been given to a team instead of an individual athlete.

The Maltese youngsters made history with their first participation in the World Championships in Volos, Greece. They stunned the more-quoted United States side 10-7 in the opener and sealed top spot in the group with a 13-3 hammering of Kazakhstan. They bounced back from their 13-8 defeat to Turkey with an 8-6 win against the Egyptians and moved into the semi-finals of the Gold Group, where they re-matched against the United States. Even though they lost 10-7 against the United States, they settled for fourth place in the Gold Group after losing 9-7 to Brazil. Still, it’s a remarkable result for them as they ended their commitments in an impressive 12th place in the tournament of 25 countries from around the world.

The trophy for the August 2022 Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month, together with a memento for all the U16 national team players, was presented by David Cassar, Business Development & Marketing Manager at Atlas Insurance. The MSJA was represented by Administrator Stephen Azzopardi for this presentation.

This award is a joint initiative of the Malta Sports Journalists Association and Atlas Insurance. The adjudicating panel of this award takes note of all the youths’ achievements during the month under review and invites local sports associations and federations to send their nominations for consideration if they feel that any of their under-21 athletes have distinguished themselves during that month.

Nominations for this award may be sent via email to info@maltasportsjournalists.com. The rules and regulations of the award can be viewed on the website
www.maltasportsjournalists.com.

It-tim nazzjonali ta’ taħt is-16-il sena tal-Water Polo jirbaħ l-Atlas Atleta Żagħżugħ tax-Xahar għal Awwissu

‌ Atlas 12th September 2022 (168)

It-tim nazzjonali ta’ taħt is-16-il sena tal-Water Polo ngħata l-unur tal-Atlas Atleta Żagħżugħ tax-Xahar għal Awwissu. Din hija t-tielet darba li dan il-premju qed jingħata lil tim minflok atleta individwali.

Iż-żgħażagħ Maltin naqqxu isimhom fl-Istorja bl-ewwel parteċipazzjoni tagħhom fil-Kampjonat Dinji li sar f’Volos fil-Greċja. Huma impressjonaw mhux ftit, meta għelbu lit-tim aktar kwotat tal-Istati Uniti fil-logħba inawgurali bl-iskor ta’ 10-7 u rebħu l-grupp wara li ġabu fix-xejn lill-Każakistan 13-3. Huma ġew minn telfa ta’ 13-8 kontra t-Turkija, meta għelbu lill-Eġittu 8-6 u għaddew għas-semifinali tal-Gold Group, fejn kellhom jerġgħu jaffrontaw lill-Istati Uniti. Minkejja li din id-darba l-Maltin tilfu 10-7, assiguraw ir-raba’ post fil-Gold Group wara li tilfu 9-7 kontra l-Brażil. Xorta waħda dawn ir-riżultati miksuba huma ferm pożittivi u b’hekk il-Maltin temmew dawn l-impenji fit-12-il post fost il-25 pajjiż li ħa sehem minn madwar id-dinja.

It-trofew tal-Atlas Atleta Żagħżugħ tax-Xahar għal Awwissu flimkien ma’ tifkira tal-okkażjoni ġew preżentati lill- plejers kollha tat-tim nazzjonali ta’ taħt is-16-il sena minn David Cassar, Business Development & Marketing Manager ta’ Atlas Insurance. Stephen Azzopardi Amministratur tal-Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sports kien preżenti wkoll għall-preżentazzjoni.

Dan il-premju ta’ kull xahar jingħata b’inizjattiva konġunta tal-Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sports u Atlas Insurance. Il-panel li jiġġudika r-rebbieħa ta’ dan il-premju jieħu nota tas-suċċessi miksuba matul dak ix-xahar u fl-istess ħin jistieden lill-assoċjazzjonijiet u federazzjonijiet sportivi sabiex jibagħtu n-nomini tagħhom. In-nominati li jiġu evalwati jridu jkunu taħt il-21 sena.

In-nominazzjonijiet għandhom jaslu b’imejl lil info@maltasportsjournalists.com. Ir-regolamenti ta’ dan l-unur jinsabu fuq is-sit elettroniku tal-Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sports li hu www.maltasportsjournalists.com.
