Stqarrija għall-Istampa

Illum 3 ta' Ottubru 2023

L-Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sports tagħmel referenza għall-artiklu ppublikat illum fil-ġurnal In-Nazzjon li ma kienx jitratta suġġett sportiv intitolat 'Ma' Alicia Bugeja ma' taħdimx' fil-ħarġa tat-Tlieta 3 ta' Ottubru 2023.

Filwaqt li l-Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sports temmen u dejjem kienet favur il-liberta' tal-espressjoni ma tistax taċċetta li ġurnalisti jattakkaw personalment ġurnalisti membri tagħha.

Fl-artiklu msemmi s-Sur Mark Attard li għadu attiv fil-media sportiva b'kummentarji regolari fuq l-istazzjon sportiv tal-PBS, ġie attribwit lilu aġġettiv li fl-opinjoni tal-Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sports u tas-settur tal-media sportiva hu dispreġjattiv u ta' min jikundannah.

L-Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sports kienet u se tibqa' favur ġurnaliżmu ħieles u ġurnaliżmu investigattiv u qatt mhu se tidħol fi kwistjonijiet ta' politka partiġjana, iżda l-anqas qatt mhu se taċċetta li membri tagħha jkunu attakkati personalment jew iktar minn hekk ikun hemm tentattiv biex dawn jiġu redikolati.

Għaldaqstant l-Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sport qed tistenna li b'mod immedjat tinħareġ apoloġija u kjarifika fil-konfront tal-membru tagħha u qed tirriserva d-dritt li tieħu passi ulterjuri.

Press Release

Today 3rd October 2023

The Malta Sports Journalists Association (Malta SJA) refers to the article published earlier today (not sports related) in the local newspaper, In-Nazzjon entitled 'Ma' Alicia Bugeja ma' taħdimx' in the edition of Tuesday 3rd October 2023.

While the Malta Sports Journalists Association believes and is always in favour of freedom of expression, it will never accept that its members are personally attacked by other journalists.

In the previously mentioned article, Mr Mark Attard who is still active in the sports media sector with regular commentaries on PBS’ sport channel, was attributed a phrase that the Malta Sports Journalists Association sees as contemptuous and deplorable.

The Malta Sports Journalists Association will always remain in favour of free and investigative journalism and will never be involved in issues related to partisan politics. Nevertheless, the Association will never allow that its members are personally attacked and ridiculed.

In the meantime, the Malta Sports Journalists Association is demanding an immediate apology and clarification with regards to this incident and reserves the right to take further actions.
