Danica Bonello Spiteri presented with TGS Fair Play Award for the April-June period

2 ‌

The Malta Sports Journalists Association (MSJA) has announced that the tenth TGS Malta Fair Play Award, has been awarded to veteran triathlete Danica Bonello Spiteri. This is the second award for the year 2023, covering the April–June-period.

This award has been recently revamped by the MSJA in collaboration with the Malta Fair Play Movement and Together Gaming Solutions.

The award is aimed at sporting individuals or teams that would have distinguished themselves with an altruistic gesture of fair play during official and/or non-official competitions.

During the sprint triathlon national championship race, held on Sunday 11th June 2023 in Salina (limits of Naxxar and St. Paul’s Bay), Maya Schembri Rodgers came out of the water first, followed by Danica Bonello Spiteri with the latter trying to chase Schembri Rodgers on the bike section with the aim to start closing the gap.

As Schembri Rogers was in sight of Bonello Spiteri, the former accidentally fell off her bike with Bonello Spiteri reaching her within seconds.

An altruistic and fair play gesture saw Bonello Spiteri slowing down to assist and eventually encouraging Maya Schembri Rodgers to get on the bike and pedal to the finish. Eventually Bonello Spiteri ended the race victorious whilst Schembri Rodgers took the second place in the Female overall.

For Danica Bonello Spiteri, it came almost naturally to stop and offer assistance to such an upcoming and promising triathlete like Maya Schembri Rodgers.

"Danica has shown us the true measure of sportsmanship: being human above competitiveness. She has definitely redefined the meaning of victory in this local competitive sport. Truly an inspiring athlete whose actions are truly laudable,” said Edward Licari, Director of Together Gaming Solutions.

The TGS Malta Fair Play Award was presented by Edward Licari, Director of Together Gaming Solutions, at their offices in St. Julian’s. Charles Camenzuli was representing the Malta Fair Play Movement.

Members of the public, teams, or officials can notify the Malta Sports Journalists Association and the Malta Fair Play Movement and make them aware of a fair play gesture by contacting them at info@maltasportsjournalists.com for consideration.

L-Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sports bi pjaċir tħabbar l-għaxar TGS Fair Play Award, li ġie mogħti lit-triatleta veterana Danica Bonello Spiteri. Dan huwa t-tieni unur għas-sena 2023, li jkopri l-perjodu bejn April u Ġunju 2023.

Dan l-unur li dan l-aħħar ingħatatlu dehra ġdida, huwa frott tal-kolaborazzjoni li l-Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sports għandha mal-Malta Fair Play Movement u Together Gaming Solutions.

Dan il-premju huwa intiż għal dawk fil-qasam tal-isport kemm fuq livell individwali jew bħala tim għal mod altruwistiku ta’ Fair Play f’kompetizzjoni/ijiet uffiċjali jew le.

Waqt it-tellieqa tal-Kampjonat Nazzjonali tat-Triathlon Sprint, li saret nhar il-Ħadd 11 ta’ Ġunju 2023 fis-Salina (limiti tan-Naxxar u San Pawl il-Baħar), Maya Schembri Rodgers kienet l-ewwel atleta li ħarġet mill-ilma u allura Danica Bonello Spiteri, bdiet tirsisti biex tnaqqas id-distakk ta’ bejniethom fuq ir-rota.

F’daqqa waħda, għal xi raġuni Bonello Spiteri rat lil Schembri Rogers titfixkel u taqa’ minn fuq ir-rota. F’qasir żmien, Bonello Spiteri laħqitha u waqfet biex tgħinha. Kien hawn li Bonello Spiteri għamlet il-kuraġġ lil Schembri Rodgers biex terġa’ tirkeb ir-rota u tkompli t-tellieqa magħha. Eventwalment Bonello Spiteri spiċċat fl-ewwel post, filwaqt li Schembri Rodgers daħlet it-tieni overall fis-sezzjoni femminili.

Bonello Spiteri ħasset li kienet xi ħaġa naturali fiha, li tieqaf u tassisti lit-triatleta promettenti Maya Schembri Rogers.

Edward Licari Direttur ta’ Together Gaming Solutions irrimarka: “Danica uriet b’mod ċar xi jfisser l-isport, meta l-lat uman ġie qabel l-element ta’ kompetizzjoni. Hija ħarġet tassew rebbieħa għax il-ġest tagħha huwa ta’ ispirazzjoni u ħaqqu li jiġi ppremjat.”

Il-preżentazzjoni tat-TGS Fair Play Award saret fl-uffiċini ta’ Together Gaming Solutions, minn Edward Licari Direttur ta’ Together Gaming Solutions. Charles Camenzuli kien preżenti f’isem il-Malta Fair Play Movement.

Individwi, timijiet, jew uffiċjali jistgħu jikkomunikaw mal-Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sports u mal-Malta Fair Play Movement biex jirrapurtawlhom att ta’ fair play billi jibagħtu email fuq info@maltasportsjournalists.com, sabiex dan il-ġest ikun ikkunsidrat.
