The Malta Sports Journalists Association joins the sporting community to mourn the loss of Robert Arrigo and Twanny Agius

The Malta Sports Journalists Association joins all of those who are mourning the demise of the PN’s Member of Parliament and ex football administrator Robert Arrigo and ex MAFA President Twanny Agius.

These two personalities were well known in our country for their contributions and had in common the love for Sport especially for the game of football.

Robert Arrigo had made his first approach in the administration of local football when he had been elected as President of Gzira United FC and then moved to Sliema Wanderers FC, where he occupied this same role for 12 years. Arrigo will also be remembered for his service as Mayor in the Sliema locality. He worked for more than 5 decades in the hospitality and tourism industry. He was also a Member of Parliament, also held the role of Deputy leader within the Nationalist Party.

The Malta Sports Journalists Association mourns also Twanny Agius, who occupied the role of President of the Malta Amateur Football Association for no less than 23 years where he had just resigned from his post only a few months ago due to health reasons.  Mr Agius was also a local football referee.

The Malta Sports Journalists Association sends its sincere condolences to the Arrigo and Agius families.

L-Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sports tingħaqad mal-komunità sportiva u ssellem lil Robert Arrigo u Twanny Agius

L-Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sports tingħaqad ma’ dawk kollha li wrew is-sogħba tagħhom għall-mewt tal-Membru Parlamentari Nazzjonalista u eks amministratur fil-futbol Robert Arrigo u tal-eks President tal-MAFA Twanny Agius.

Żewġ personalitajiet li kienu ferm popolari f’pajjiżna, għaliex taw kontribut kbir u kellhom in komuni l-imħabba lejn l-isport speċjalment għal-logħba tal-futbol.

Robert Arrigo kien beda fl-amministrazzjoni fil-futbol lokali meta kien ġie elett bħala President tal-Klabb ta’ Gzira United FC u wara għamel 12-il sena bħala President ta’ Sliema Wanderers FC. Arrigo jibqa’ mfakkar ukoll għall-qadi tiegħu bħala Sindku ta’ Tas-Sliema. Huwa ħadem għall-aktar minn 50 sena fl-industrija tal-ospitalità u t-turiżmu. Arrigo ta wkoll il-kontribut tiegħu bħala membru parlamentari fejn kien ukoll Viċi Kap tal-Partit Nazzjonalista.

L-Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sports isellem ukoll il-memorja ta’ Twanny Agius li okkupa l-kariga ta’ President tal-Malta Football Amateurs Association (MAFA) għal 23 sena sħaħ. Huwa rriżenja minn din il-kariga ftit tax-xhur ilu minħabba raġunijiet ta’ saħħa. Agius kien ukoll referee fil-futbol lokali.

L-Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sports tibgħat il-kondoljanzi sinċiera tagħha lill-familji Arrigo u Agius.
